Term Definition
Running Time. Amount of time a condensing unit is run per hour or per 24 hours.  
Running Track. An oval-shaped track for use by athletes in various running events.  
Running Trap. A plumbing trap in which the inlet and outlet are in a straight horizontal line between which the water way is depressed to below the bottom of either the inlet or outlet.  
Running Winding. Electrical winding of motor which has current flowing through it during normal operation of motor.  
Runoff. The excess of rainwater or snowmelt that is not absorbed into the earth and drains to streams, rivers, or storm water collection devices.  
Runs. In painting, curtains, sags, and other irregularities due to uneven flow.  
Rural Letter Box. A roadside receptacle usually found in rural areas for delivery of mail.  
Rust. A reddish or yellowish-brown coating formed on iron or steel caused by oxidation, usually as a result of moisture; ferrous oxide.  
Rusticated Concrete. Beveled edges of concrete making the joints conspicuous.  
Rustification. In building and masonry, the use of squared or hewn stone blocks with roughened surfaces and edges deeply beveled or grooved to make the joints conspicuous.  
Rust-Inhibitive Washes. solutions which etch the metal and form a dull gray coating of uniformly fine texture, thus producing rust-inhibitive surface receptive to priming coat.  
Rutile. A mineral form of titanium oxide, TiO2, tetragonal crystallization, but usually produced chemically for use in ceramics and other products.  
R-Value. The number of minutes (seconds) required for 1 Btu (joule) to penetrate one square foot (square meter) of a material for each degree of temperature difference between the two sides of the material. The resistance of a material to the passage of heat. The reciprocal of conduction (1/c).
