Rhode Island License Information

Construction Work Regulated:

Residential construction of four dwelling units or less is regulated at the state level through registration. Pre qualification is required in some instances for public works contracts.

Electrical, plumbing, mechanical and asbestos abatement work requires licensing by the state.


License Requirements

Construction Work Regulated:

  • Public works contracts by any city, town agency or committee in excess of $1,000 shall post a performance/payment bond for not less than 50% of the contract price. Contracts in excess of $50,000 may be exempted.

Reciprocal Agreements

Rhode Island has an electrical reciprocity agreement with Virginia.
